Geothermal Drilling

Geothermal drilling is a complex and expensive (but usually cost-effective) process. The geologic formations encountered and flow rates required for commercial production cause geothermal drilling contractors to use different methods and tools than those used in other areas. GeothermalPlus has  specialised crews available, drilling to maximize well diameters to increase flow potential.

All drilling is undertaken in the safe knowledge that GeothermalPlus and our sister company Drilcorp have carried out all relevant analysis to provide the drillers with maximum knowledge of the project in hand. All borefields will be expertly designed by a combination of system designers, drillers and hydro-geologists and finished to the highest standard for the installation.

A major reason that many geothermal prospects go undeveloped is that they are too deep to be drilled economically. If advances were made that significantly reduce drilling costs, resources at previously uneconomical depths then would become feasible development prospects. Professor Paul Younger in association with our drillers have previous experience of deeper geothermal drilling.

Reservoir Management

From the time a well is drilled, we will actively monitor and manage it  to maintain its long-term production potential. The longer a reservoir is in production, the more these methods will support effective management, which is considered to be the best way to protect investment in a geothermal project.

GeothermalPlus' drillers work in conjunction with our consultants and designer from the very start of every project.
