Case Studies

Adjacent to the O2 Arena is an area of previously derelict land recently used as a car park for the arena. This was subject to a massive new re-developed for housing and retail. Four wells were drilled to abstract and return water into the Chalk aquifer. The wells have been constructed to a very high standard with stainless steel to guard against corrosion from contaminated soils. The wells have been developed and tested extensively and further tested with tracers dye to establish hydrogeological conditions.

A radical new project to redevelop a part of Middlesbrough called the BoHo Zone involved the drilling, testing and installation of two boreholes for open loop heating and cooling. The wells were drilled to abstract water from the Sherwood Sandstones beneath the site. Considerable amounts of water were obtained. Testing was conducted at about 25 litres per second. The wells were both drilled to 100m each. One will be used for abstraction and one for re-charge.

GeothermalPlus reviewed available geological and hydrogeological information to provide the client with the likely ground and groundwater conditions, potential water yield for open loop and thermal conductivity for closed loop ground sour e systems. Also explained were the next stages and the regulatory requirements.

Due to rising water within mine workings a discharge has occurred within a block of coal associated the now abandoned Lancashire Coalfield, discoloured mine water was observed to arise from an old mine adit and discharging into the nearby watercourse of a local brook .

Drilcorp Ltd was commissioned by Coal Authority to drill and install a large diameter borehole within which to install a submersible pump and to utilise this borehole as an abstraction point to lower the water table in its surroundings and to reduce or stop pollution from the above mine.
